ENVIRONMENTALISM PACKET #2: GLOBAL WARMING

Environmentalism Packet #2: Global warming is the second packet in a series produced by the Society for Objective Science (S.O.S.), a nonprofit corporation. The first packet, Overview of Environmentalism, critically analyzes the roots of environmentalism. Global warming reveals the flawed philosophic premises and inconclusive scientific evidence behind the claims of global warming. Future packets in the series will focus on other specific issues such as the ozone hole and pesticides.

S.O.S. promotes good science for the benefit of man. Its immediate purpose is education on environmental issues and the scientific method in order to help individuals evaluate these issues for themselves. S.O.S. sponsors lectures, prints pamphlets, and distributes literature on environmental issues.

Global warming is perceived by many people today as nothing less than a potential apocalypse - yet not only does the theory fail to stand up under critical scrutiny, but there is ample evidence against it. This collection presents a detailed and accessible overview of the case against global warming from the perspective of a number of distinguished scientists in the field. It includes the following articles:

Global Warming: Who Should We Believe? by Dixy Lee Ray with Lou Guzzo. A comprehensive summary of the many facts contradicting global warming, emphasizing that "only evidence counts."

Global Warming: All Smoke and No Heat, by Richard F. Sanford. Also a broad summary, it includes an insightful analysis of the "context dropping" methodology of the theory's advocates.

What to Do About Greenhouse Warming: Look Before You Leap, by S. Fred Singer, Roger Revelle and Chauncey Starr. This survey of the evidence against global warming emphasizes common sense.

Global Warming: A Different View, by Hugh Ellsaesser. Stresses the differences between the actual climate record and the predicted warming "fingerprint," and also discusses how allegations of "self-interest" are being used to discredit the theory's critics.

Global Warming: The Origin and Nature of the Alleged Scientific Consensus, by Richard Lindzen. Explains how "current models depend heavily on undemonstrated positive feedback factors to predict high levels of warming," and gives a disturbing account of how political pressure has helped to forge the alleged scientific "consensus."

The Greenhouse Debate Continued: An Analysis and Critique of the IPCC Climate Assessment, by S. Fred Singer. Raises serious doubts about the government report on which claims of a consensus are based, maintaining that its conclusions are NOT supported by the report itself or even by most of its contributors.

Effects of Atmospheric CO2 Enrichment on Photosynthesis, Respiration, and Growth of Sour Orange Trees, and Doubling CO2 Triples Growth Rate of Sour Orange Trees, by Sherwood Idso and Bruce Kimball. The authors describe their experiments showing increased plant and crop growth from elevated levels of carbon dioxide, a potentially vast benefit to man from global warming.
