Environmentalism Packet #1: Overview of Environmentalism is the first packet in a series produced by the Society for Objective Science (S.O.S.), a nonprofit corporation. Overview of Environmentalism consists of articles that critically analyze the philosophy of environmentalism and the scientific evidence behind a variety of environmental claims. Future packets in the series will focus on specific issues such as global warming, the ozone hole, and pesticides.
S.O.S. was created to promote good science for the benefit of man. Its immediate purpose is to educate the public on environmental issues and provide knowledge of the scientific method in order to help individuals evaluate these issues for themselves. S.O.S. sponsors lectures, prints pamphlets, and distributes literature on environmental issues.
Overview of Environmentalism provides a unique tool for understanding the environmental movement, its philosophy, political agenda, and scientific claims. S.O.S. has selected articles that champion science, reason, and human life. Overview of Environmentalism contains nine pamphlets by leading authorities on environmentalism such as Dr. George Reisman and the late Dr. Dixy Lee Ray. These authors present unconventional and provocative views. They challenge the prevailing notion that man's activities, especially his material progress, are a threat to life on earth.
Each author speaks as an individual (not necessarily a spokesman for S.O.S.) who has independently and objectively evaluated the facts. S.O.S. asks that you evaluate the authors' conclusions and the prevailing ideas of society not by the standard of social convention but according to the facts and your best independent judgment.
Overview of Environmentalism contains the following articles: The Toxicity of Environmentalism by George Reisman, Ph.D., Environmentalism and the Future by Dixy Lee Ray, Ph.D., Danger in Environmental Policy by John E. Kinney, P.E., D.E.E., A Checklist for Healthy Skeptics by Dianne L. Durante, Ph.D. Environmentalism versus Man, Environmentalism and the Assault on Reason, The Fallacy of Intrinsic Value, and The Nature of Environmentalism by Richard F. Sanford, Ph.D. If you are missing any, please contact S.O.S.
The essays reproduced here are only an introduction. Each of the viewpoints represented is based on far more research than can be presented in nine short articles. The authors hope that you will be motivated to continue asking frank questions and researching issues further on your own. The Society for Objective Science can help you by providing essays on particular topics, critical analyses of current issues, and references to further reading.
If, after reading the enclosed pamphlets, you agree that this information should be widely disseminated, please obtain additional packets at S.O.S.'s low prices and give them to friends, teachers, business associates, professional societies, libraries, and other people and institutions.
