Leonard,
Re our meeting with Edith and George: I've read Peter's letter to you and agree with it, but wanted to add that this kind of Edith's hostile and irrational behavior has a long history, and thereby throw in the following:
--Their idea that the Poupore conference of 1987 was an outrage because it involved "their" speakers (though on entirely different topics) and was "unfairly" competing with TJS in August, though it was to be held in late Feb. or early March in NYC, and for 2 days. (George told me last Sept. that it was to have been in May-which I checked and that's just false.) Their ideas and deportment in scotching that conference were shocking.
Edith's long "power struggle" with Mike, culminating in Mike threatening to quit. And then Edith's bizarre prediction that by August 1987 the Board would see that she was right that Mike was ruining ARI. And she has stuck to this view of Mike and ARI ever since!
--Every year or two a new person is put on Edith's personal "shit list"-and that person is then badmouthed to every objectivist in sight, starting with the victim's best friends. I was on the list when I stopped therapy with her ('82 and '83), and she kept attacking me then to Mike and John (and to you, I'm sure). Then John was "it," then Mike, now Peter.
So after enough concretes, over enough years, we all have drawn the abstraction about the nature of Edith and George as entities. They are irrational and troublemakers."
Till Monday,
Harry
